Who: Michael and Helen Cameron
What They Do: Own the Chicago restaurant and music venue Uncommon Ground that has the first certified organic roof top farm. The couple is deeply committed to their mission of serving delicious, healthy food in a community-spirited environment.
Chef Helen Cameron: “When I saw the roof, I thought ‘Oh my God! We could grow food here!’ There’s nothing more local than climbing your fire escape or stairs and harvesting a tomato.” The farm is so successful that not only does it service the restaurant, but offers enough overflow to partake in a weekly farmers’ market.
