EPA Promotes the Precautionary Principle! – Huge Eco-Win!
The Obama Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will promote a new chemical law in Congress in the coming months that puts the responsibility on industry to prove that its compounds are safe. This is a huge breakthrough for consumer protection.
I’ve always been a huge fan of The Precautionary Principle, which states that products should not be put on the market until proven safe. Yay! I never dreamed that we would see The Precautionary Principle made into law in my lifetime. The government would protect us, our children, and everyone else. Eco-Win!
Meanwhile, the EPA will also analyze and regulate six high-profile, widely used chemicals that have raised health concerns. These six are bisphonal A (BPA), pththalates, brominated flame retardants, perfluorinated compounds (used in non-stick coatings and food packaging); some parafins, and benzidine dyes and pigments.
