dalaiIn general, I feel optimistic about the future. The rapid changes in our attitude toward the earth are also a source of hope. We failed to realized that unchecked consumerism was disastrous for both the environment and social welfare. Now, individuals and governments are seeking a new ecological and economic order.

-The Dalai Lama, speech, 1992, as published in The Green Devotional, Active Prayers for a Healthy Planet, by Karen Speerstra

By Annie B. Bond, the best-selling and award-winning author of five healthy/green living books, including Better Basics for the Home (Three Rivers Press, 1999), Home Enlightenment, Clean & Green (1990), and most recently True Food (National Geographic, 2010 and winner of Gourmand Awards Best Health and Nutrition Cookbook in the World).
