Cash for Clunkers Isn’t Green – Eco-Fail
The government’s new program allowing people to trade their gas guzzlers (anything that gets fewer than 18 mpg) for cash to buy a new car only requires that the new car get 22 mpg. Please! According to an article by Reuters, this will ultimately shave little more than 0.05 percent, or between 4,000 and 5,000 barrels per day, off the nation’s daily consumption of 9 million barrels. An opportunity to really make a difference was missed here, IMHO. Eco-Fail!
