Alcohol for Mealy Bugs

Submitted by on Saturday, 18 July 2009View Comments

Beautiful JadeMealy bugs look like little bits of cotton on a plant. They seem to especially like juicy plants like jade, as they latch on to drink the fluids in the leaves.

Denatured alcohol or vodka
Cotton balls

1. If you can, take the plant outside and spray with a hose.
2. Saturate a cotton ball with alcohol and rub the infested areas.
3. Don’t rinse.

Eco-Win: It works
Eco-Fail: Resorting to toxic, synthetic pesticides
Reality Check: This formula costs pennies.
